Terms of Use

Knyaw is a free web app for learning to read Sgaw Karen: the letters, the words, and what they mean. It does not teach pronunciation or tone, and never pretends to, because that needs verified audio we do not yet have.

The Karen word data is checked against trusted sources and by Karen readers, but it is still being improved and may contain mistakes. Please treat it as a learning aid, not a final authority.

Knyaw is free to use. It is provided "as is", without guarantees that it will be error-free, complete, or always available. We do our best, but we cannot promise the service or its content is perfect or uninterrupted, and we are not liable for any loss from using it.

If you make an account, keep your login safe; you are responsible for what happens under it. Please use Knyaw kindly: do not try to break it, abuse it, scrape it at scale, or use it to harm others.

If you suggest or check words on the verify page, thank you. By contributing, you allow us to use your suggestions to improve Knyaw, and they may be shown publicly (for example, the name and place you choose to share). Please only submit things that are genuine and that you have the right to share, and nothing offensive.

Donations are voluntary gifts that help keep Knyaw free for everyone. They are processed by Stripe and are generally non-refundable. They do not buy features or change these terms. Learn more on the transparency page.

The Sgaw Karen language belongs to the Karen people, not to us. The Knyaw app, its design, lessons, and original content are ours. Some word data comes from third-party dictionaries and open sources under their own licenses, and we credit those where required. If you believe something here infringes your rights, please contact us and we will look into it promptly.

We may update Knyaw or these terms over time; the date at the top shows the latest version. We may suspend access for anyone who abuses the service. You can stop using Knyaw at any time, and ask us to delete your account.
